COMMISSIONER STEPHEN E. ALLEN, SR.

Commissioner Allen has over fifty (50) years of public service experience in the emergency services & management / public safety fields.

Commissioner Allen retired and moved to Ft. Myers, Florida, with his wife, in July 2022. In 2023, he was elected as the Vice President of his Condominium HOA. In March 2024, Commissioner Allen was elected as one of his Community’s Master HOA Board of Directors.

In Florida’s General Election on November 5, 2024, Commissioner Allen was elected Fire Commissioner, Seat 2, in the Iona-McGregor Fire District for a 4-year term.

Commissioner Allen is a retired USAF military veteran with 24 years of service. Retiring as a Chief Master Sergeant (E-9), Fire Chief.

Commissioner Allen has served at the local, County, State and Federal levels with positions as a police officer, every rank and position within a fire department from firefighter to Fire Chief, Arson Investigator, and Fire Marshal. He was a Federal Supervisor Program Manager (GS-15), a City Emergency Manager, a State Public Safety Director as well as a Private Investigator.

Commissioner Allen’s Federal service included working for both the Department of Homeland Security (FEMA) and the Department of Health & Human Services (HHS) in the National Disaster Medical System (NDMS). Starting out as an Emergency Operations Specialist on the Incident Management Team and retiring as a Supervisory Program Specialist – Training, Commissioner Allen has been directly involved in multiple emergency/disaster responses. From airplane accidents, to hurricanes, to managing the Federal NDMS operations at ground zero during the NY World Trade Center on 9/11, to managing all field Federal NDMS operations in Louisiana during Hurricanes Katrina & Rita.

Commissioner Allen’s Maryland State service included the Director, Office of Emergency Management & Safety in the Maryland DOT directly responsible for managing anti-terrorism, security and emergency management. Commissioner Allen started his State service as the Fire Chief of the BWI Airport Fire & Rescue Department and was subsequently appointed as the Director of Public Safety at BWI Airport.

Commissioner Allen held numerous volunteer positions within the various communities where he lived in Maryland and has continued his community volunteer services since relocating to Southwest Florida.
