Earlier this week, Squad 73, Engine 71 and Lt. Barber, our Hazmat Team Coordinator, teamed up with Lee Health at HealthPark Hospital for a surprise hazmat drill with hospital staff.
The scenario? A simulated hazmat emergency with contaminated patients.
Our crews led the initial gross decon process before patients moved through decon tents for “showers” and triage. Gross decon involves a quick removal of contaminants from individuals.
Training like this keeps everyone sharp and ensures we’re ready in the event of a real hazmat emergency. ... See MoreSee Less

So proud of the training these firefighters put in!
Today, our Fire Chief Seth Comer and members of our department proudly presented Anthony Gonzalez with a well-deserved Citizen Life-Saving Award for his heroic actions.
On February 26, 2025, Engine 75, Rescue 75, and Lee County Public Safety Medic 27 responded to a drowning call, but thanks to Anthony’s quick and courageous actions, the child had already been rescued. While on his lunch break, Anthony noticed a young child alone near a pond. When the child walked into the water and began to struggle, Anthony didn’t hesitate, he jumped in and pulled the child to safety.
His quick thinking and selfless actions made all the difference, and we truly believe he saved a life that day.
Thank you, Anthony, for being a true hero.
This recognition was made possible thanks to Lt. Curtis Rine, who was on the call and nominated Anthony. ... See MoreSee Less
